Paintball Teams Above and Beyond: Texas Roughnecks

The Texas Roughnecks, who bill themselves as the largest scenario paintball team in Texas (the state where they like things BIG) has recently announced that they are participating in the Wounded Warrior Project charity.

The charity supports returning wounded veterans and can be reached right from the Roughneck’s home page – HERE

The team was founded in 2004 by assembling several smaller scenario teams; they’ve been attending approximately ten games per year ever since, recently being seen at Oklahoma D-Day.

This is the kind of thing that earns a team a membership in the Paintball Family - giving back for a worthy cause.

By all initial impressions the Roughnecks will leave their mark; they’ve got a huge crew of dedicated players and seem to be making all the right moves – coverage in the mags, a Youtube channel featuring their on-field exploits and a pretty darned cool logo.

68Caliber applauds their efforts, wishes them the best of luck and encourages everyone to get behind them!

Paintball’s Black Market Wars After Action Report

Black Market Wars, the paintball scenario series being hosted at Paintball Sports NY, utilizes a unique format.  There are actually two different games running simultaneously.
There’s the on-field ‘war’ with flag captures, controlling of zones, props and player ability cards.  This aspect of the game saw the Russian team in the lead, though it was close to an even fight;  both teams fought hard to gain ground and try to take each others Battle Flags.
The other part of the game takes place at the Black Market and with our Chinese / American dignitaries.
Each team’s Agents worked well with the 3rd entity to keep Gold flowing into the market for war supplies, special missions, and additional class ability cards.
During the game we allow each role player to make their own deals.  This being a paintball scenario, sometimes those deals are in the best interest of the player’s team, and sometimes they’re made for personal gain or glory.
It’s in the Black market that the tide of war is pulled to one side or the other.
Going into the night missions the Russians had a minimal lead.  Both teams played the main battlefield until 9pm or so, mostly fighting over a 3 points per minute battle flag and then going on a prop scavenger hunt. After the main night session ended two additional missions were conducted in an off-field challenge taking place in our city map.
Imperialist Japan closed the lead during the night by controlling more ground and turning in more props, the off field missions resulted in one win for each side.
Sunday started off with the Russians holding both starting battle flags for the first hour of the game; this allowed them to collect more props to be used later during in game missions and made for an uphill fight for Japan.
Over in the Black Market, assassins were everywhere with the Russians scoring over 15 Planned Hits ( cap gun role play kills ) and the Japanese scoring over 20 Samurai Attacks ( foam sword kills ).
After Hightower of team Joint Fury tried to take out Waldo and Shields of Delta using 2 cap guns to their 1 sword each, we were forced to make a serious ruling… The winner of that duel would be decided by a 5 on 5 off field skirmish.  This improptu variation went over really well with the spectators and the Black Market reps. Hightower and the JF crew were able to decimate the Japanese during this challenge ( and Shields got shot out by his own team ). After the challenge the Russians were able to gain control of the Japanese War-chest flag three more times ensuring their victory as the game wound down.
Don’t miss the next BLACK MARKET WARS

Vendetta Paintball Gets Props For Charity Support

Vendetta Paintball of West Nyack, NY, was praised in a local paper’s coverage today for opening up their facility to charitable organizations.

The owners decided to make their indoor paintball facility available to fund raisers AT NO CHARGE!

This looks like a win-win to us: you expose a heck of a lot of people to the game, and give them a taste while supporting good causes.

The Vendetta owners were motivated by their community which has embraced the field and given them a lot of business during troubling economic times.

What intrigues us here at 68Caliber is this example of a new economic model which has been playing out in other entertainment fields – music, literature, movies – being applied to paintball; seems that when folks get a chance to taste for free, they WILL come back and spend money in the future.

Paintball An Officially Recognized Sport in SA

Here’s something you really don’t see every day: the New Era news website from Namibia (you’ll need a map of Africa to find it) reports on their first home team playing in the South African GPPL league (you can read all about that here.

If you follow New Era’s lead over to the GPPL Youtube Channel (here), you’ll get to watch a television news reporter saying this:

“Paintball in South Africa has now been recognized as an official sport.”

The sports commentator then goes on to explain that this means that teams can now “play for provincial colors”, which I guess is kind of like playing for a city or a state.

Several other countries have previously made similar announcements over the past two decades. Nevertheless, it’s nice to see such progress continuing to be made.

Fresh Air Fund Looking for Paintball Homes

The Fresh Air Fund, which annually helps inner city kids get out into the woods, the fields and the other great outdoors open spaces are looking for host families for this summer.

68Caliber evidently hit their radar screen as a place that might help them find some folks who’ve got the wherewithal to help a child experience the great outdoors.

Of course that might also involve helping them step out onto a paintball field or two during the course of the summer.

D-Day For Paintball Is Coming On Strong

Well it’s almost that time again, time for The Annual Oklahoma D-Day Event to kick off.

This year marks the 13th year the event will have been held just outside of Wyandotte, OK. DDay Adventure Park . The event, which begins on Monday, June 7th runs
this year through June 12th.

The turnout is expected to match last year when there were close to 3,000 participants, along with several thousand more spectators, family members and vendors on the site – 66800 E. 175th Rd Wyandotte, OK 74370 – 918.666.3411.

Highlights of this year’s event will include a special birthday party for 101st Airborne Veteran Jake McNiece.

Jake is one of only a small number of WW II veterans who made four combat jumps, including two while serving as a Pathfinder, into Normandy, Holland, Bastogne and Southern Germany and came back home to talk about it. Jake will be speak each day about his experiences during WW II and he’ll also be signing copies of his book, “The Filthy Thirteen,” each of the three days (June 9th-11th) he’ll be there. On Wednesday evening, starting about 7 PM everyone is invited to drop by the D-Day Cafe, to wish Jake a happy 91st birthday as well as to help celebrate the events’s first USO SHOW. Plans call for surprising Jake with a cake as well as a sketch which has been donated by Mr. Mort Walker, the cartoonist who draws the popular Beetle Bailey cartoon.

In addition to Mr. McNeice everyone present will also have an opportunity to meet and listen to Mr. Leland Burns, the co-author with his father Dewayne of a book about his father’s WW II exploits, entitled “Jump Into the Valley Of The Shadow.” Leland assisted his father, who served during WW II as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division.

Other highlights this year include the unveiling of a number of newly constructed buildings, which have been built to look similar to what soldiers encountered as they fought their way
across Europe.

Fore more details about the many daily events which will occur each day, as well as a list of times when the press is invited to observe some of the behind the scenes pre-event planning sessions, please refer to the attached schedule. Anyone wanting to visit one of these is asked to contact me for further details.

Finally, as part of the event again this year, we’re offering everyone who attends a free copy of a newspaper entitled “The 2010 Stars and Stripes Oklahoma D-Day Special Edition.” Here is a link which allows you to preview this year’s edition online -
